LINDA McCANN trained at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen and, in 1986, graduated with a degree in painting and drawing. She subsequently put her training to work to hone her artistic skills, including a visual record of her extensive travels throughout Asia, whilst working in a variety of social work care settings in Aberdeen and its surrounding area.

In 1998 she met her future spouse, Leo, a talented accordion and whistle player. It was on their move to Edinburgh in 2000 that Linda was to become fully exposed to Leo's exciting, vibrant and flourishing music scene. This, in turn, became the catalyst for the development of her highly acclaimed 3D plasticine models and brought to sculptured life a large selection of the biggest names in Scottish, Irish and American traditional music. Linda’s models were to make their explosive debut onto the music scene when she featured a plasticine model of Leo on the front cover of his solo album, “If Anyone Can”. In the same year Linda was commissioned to design the Danny Kyle Awards for the world-renowned Celtic Connections music festival, which, in turn, led to an artist in residency post in 2001 and an exhibition of her models in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall in 2002. Since then, Linda has been commissioned to create models and drawings of some of the finest traditional musicians including Dougie MacLean, Phil Cunningham, Aly Bain, Evelyn Glennie, Kate Rusby and The Dubliners. In 2004 many of these models were celebrated in a hugely acclaimed calendar, created and published by Linda and her graphic designer brother, Mike Garden, which gained them international acclaim.

Linda is also widely known for her unique model making workshops, aimed at children and adults alike, with which she has toured extensively throughout the UK and Ireland - on many occasions in collaboration with other artists, storytellers and authors.

Since the birth of her two children, and with free time at a premium, Linda has had to limit her model-making workshops but has used this opportunity to diversify and concentrate on her current work, mixed media landscapes. Linda regularly and enthusiastically exhibits her work in galleries throughout East Lothian but a source of enormous pride has been her showing in 2006 at the world famous Festival Theatre in her home town of Pitlochry.
